How did the Tokidoki craze start?

A few years ago, Tokidoki was a personal website of Italian artist Simone Legno. Legno used this site mainly for display of his art. In early 2003, the co-founder of Hard Candy Cosmetics happened to have browsed his site and instantly fell in love with his art and the unique and playful concept of Tokidoki. Immediately, they contacted Legno and flew him from his hometown, Rome, all the way to Italy. Legno accepted the amazing offer along with the idea of moving to Los Angeles for good. Since then, Legno has become business partners with Pooneh Mohajer Arnold and Ivan Arnold. They strongly believed that Tokidoki’s concept was a brand worth sharing to the whole world. To date the brand has become a fashion legacy most especially to the younger ones.

Tokidoki is a Japanese word which means “sometimes.” Legno chose this word because of his love for Japan. Legno sees Japan as a very colorful and unique country – from the happy face of Shibuya down to the serious silence of Kyoto – Japan was the perfect concept to unravel. He loved the idea of “sometimes.” That being, every person needs to wait for his moment that comes in “sometimes’ to find his perfect destiny bound to change his life forever. Tokidoki wants to instill hope in everyone and at the same time, bring out the hidden energy inside every person; thus the rainbows and children, laughing flowers, coy babies winking stars and brilliance in general; being its core concept for the brand.

Tokidoki has consistently produced fashion creations on the beat of the most authentic looking manga and anime prints. By 2004, Tokidoki officially became a lifestyle brand, an apparel and an art – all these rolled into one brand. The company received a very positive feedback from its market over a short period of time and in exactly 2004, it expanded its products line to skateboards, jewelry, vinyl toys, iSkins, knitwear, watched, accessories, sportswear and many others.

A little later in 2006, Tokidoki started collaboration with LeSportSac and co-branded the project “Tokidoki for LeSportSac.” This project was launched worldwide. Once again, the project received a very positive feedback and prompted LeSportsSac to extend contract for five more seasons.

Since then, Tokidoki has been the colorful and playful fashion line adored by women most especially, the younger ones.
